Commercial Manager

Work Base: Southern Division – Depots: Newport – Exeter – Essex
Contract: Full time, permanent
Hours: 40+ hours per week
Salary: £32,000‐£38,000 + company vehicle + performance related pay

  • Business management training
  • Excellent selling, communication and negotiation skills
  • Account management skills and experience
  • Proven sales experience within a service based company
  • Familiarity with CRM practices along with the abilities to build professional relationships
  • Knowledge of OTR tyres and the mining/construction/quarrying industry (preferable, not essential)
  • Full UK driving licence (required, preferably clean)

Purpose:   Work to improve customer relations, and surpassing company and divisional goals.  Coordinate, mentor and motivate sales managers within geographical area.  Conduct regular customer site visits to assess the conditions and recommend changes.  Carry out performance evaluations to ensure that their team is on the right path to achieving company and personal goals.

Reporting To: Commercial Development Director

Main Activities:

  • Develop and maintain business relationships with current customers and prospective customers in the assigned territory to generate new business
  • Implement and enforce company processes and procedures
  • Visit depot locations regularly
  • Identify and recommend areas for improvement
  • Work closely with Depot and Sales Managers
  • Mentor employees
  • Review measures to achieve performance and financial targets
  • Prepare, review and report on business plans, budgets and expenditure
  • Recruiting and interviewing of employees
  • Plan and coordinate appraisals and training requirements
  • Be able to organise themselves and prepare their own day efficiently
  • Working knowledge of IT including Microsoft Word, Excel and Google
  • Negotiate customer contracts
  • Attend conferences, events and meetings
  • Ensure that the Quality Manage System (QMS) conforms to ISO 9001:2015
  • Ensure processes are delivering intended outcomes
  • Report to Top Management on the performance of the QMS; on opportunities for improvement; on change requirements; on innovations
  • Ensure the promotion of customer focus
  • Ensure the integrity of the QMS is maintained
